THE BUDDY RICH BIG BAND/BUDDY'S
BUDDIES
Buddy Rich was considered the greatest drummer who ever lived. Throughout his illustrious career, he played with most of the legends of jazz. Art Tatum, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Ella Fitzgerald and Stan Getz, to name a few. As a bandleader, Buddy was most widely recognized for his work with his big band, but he also led numerous small bands.
Today, Buddy's legend continues with his big band, as well as the newly formed quintet, Buddy's Buddies. Led by drum virtuoso Steve Smith, Buddy's Buddies incorporates fresh, new arrangements from Buddy' s big band library.
PERFORMANCE - BUDDY RICH BIG BAND
The explosive 15-piece Buddy Rich Big Band is comprised of Buddy alumni, and is still the most exciting, dynamic big band around! Led by tenor saxophone great Steve Marcus, a 26-year Buddy Rich Band veteran, the band also features drumming icons Steve Smith and/or Dave Weckl. For special bookings, the band also features Buddy's daughter, Cathy, on vocals.
In the past, the band has toured with such luminaries as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Mel Torme, Tony Bennett, Andy Williams and Sarah Vaughn.
Packages comprised of the band and a vocalist, i.e., Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett, Harry Connick, Jr., Jack Jones, Nancy Wilson, George Benson, etc., are also available.
PERFORMANCE - BUDDY'S BUDDIES
With the release of their first CD on Tone Center records, Buddy's Buddies is fast becoming one of the most talked-about new bands around! Buddy's Buddies is comprised of Steve Marcus on tenor and soprano, Andy Fusco on alto sax, Baron Browne on bass, Mark Soskin on piano, and Steve Smith on drums. The quintet takes a fresh, new spin on some of Buddy's most popular charts.
EDUCATION
Both bands are available for High School and College appearances. The opportunity for master class sectionals, clinics, and a lecture/video retrospective conducted by guest speakers is also available. Key members of the band will critique and perform with the school's jazz band.
